The Morgan Rushworth Heritage
Morgan Rushworth Catalog
In 1872, during the Victorian era, the Rushworth factory in Sowerby Bridge, Halifax in Yorkshire England began manufacturing plate working machinery.
In 1906 in a small workshop in Lye in the West Midlands, the Morgan factory started manufacturing manual sheet metal machines.
During the thirties the Morgan Company commenced its long association with the Ministry of Defence and due to increased demand moved to larger premises in Lye, where the overcrank mechanical guillotine shear was developed.
During the forties and fifties this was replaced with the classic undercrank design, being popular both in the UK and overseas.
In 1960 further expansion took place with the purchase of the Providence St. Works, Lye, which was to become their home for nearly half a century.
Production now included a full range of manual and powered box and pan folders, bending rolls, guillotine shears and pressbrakes.
Meanwhile the Rushworth Company had steadily grown with a program of continuous improvement, mainly concentrating on large capacity bending rolls and shears.
In 1972 the two companies merged to create Morgan Rushworth specialising in both sheet and plate machinery.
By 1974 a third factory in Wrexham was built manufacturing around five hundred folders a year alone.
The eighties and nineties was a period of consolidation with the centralising of all production in Lye and the introduction of a new range of hydraulic machines including the HBP folders still manufactured and in use throughout the world today.
In June 2008 the company was acquired by the UK Machinery Group with a commitment to continue and develop the tradition of high quality reliable machines that have become synonymous with Morgan Rushworth.
